In La Paternal, a journalist moves through his neighbourhood and its murals of Maradona: Facundo Martinez’s short connects football and memory.
La Paternal, Buenos Aires: Diego Maradona’s face and shirt recur on the walls of the neighbourhood. Directed by Facundo Martinez, V1CT0R follows Víctor, a journalist who grew up supporting Argentinos Juniors, among those images and the places of his personal history.
The protagonist’s voice connects the team with family memories and his wish to meet and interview the number ten. Streets, murals and supporters arriving at the stadium form a journey in which the memory of a footballer remains visible in the neighbourhood’s everyday life.
The short does not attempt to recount Maradona’s entire career. Instead, it chooses one person and one place from which to explore the relationship between a player and his community. The Argentine submission runs for less than five minutes.
