In downhill racing, an entire season can converge on a few moments. The Search For Milliseconds - Jackson Goldstone follows Canadian rider Jackson Goldstone across the World Cup circuit and towards the concluding race at Mont-Sainte-Anne. The margin named in the title is not only the one measured by the clock: it runs through a return from injury, mistakes, victories and the sporting rivalry with Loïc Bruni as the pressure builds towards a home event.

The film also enters the work that comes before every descent. Mechanics, technical staff, teammates and family members accompany Goldstone as the bicycle is prepared and adjusted for different terrain and courses. Components, suspension and setup choices become part of the story: an individual performance takes shape within a network of expertise, observation and trust built over time.

The direction moves between this close-up dimension and the action on the course. Details of the bicycle and gestures in the paddock give way to point-of-view footage, lateral shots and wide views through the woods. Turns, rocks, jumps and changes of terrain remain legible even as the speed rises. The viewer can therefore follow not just a finishing time, but the way a rider chooses a line and negotiates the narrowest of margins.

The season is told without separating racing from what happens behind the scenes. Team voices, the wait before the start and meetings with rivals accompany the championship rounds; technical preparation exists alongside the vulnerability of an athlete returning to competition. The film reaches the Canadian finale as the meeting point of personal experience and collective work, allowing the course and the relationships around it to carry the sporting tension.

Matthew Butterworth edited the film and shares principal cinematography credit with Darren McCullough and Colin Jones; Jackson Goldstone appears as himself. Produced by Anthill Films, the 31-minute Canadian documentary is in English and was completed in 2025. It was entered in the fifth edition of the International Sport Film Festival under its original title, The Search For Milliseconds - Jackson Goldstone.
