International Sport Film Festival 2025: key moments from the fourth edition in Castellammare di Stabia

From 24 to 29 November 2025, Castellammare di Stabia hosted the fourth edition of the International Sport Film Festival, an intensive week devoted to sporting storytelling, cinema and sport's social value.
With more than 250 works from over 50 countries, the festival confirmed its international dimension and the centrality of the “Women in Sports”theme, turning the city into a true global observatory of new forms of sporting narrative.

Participation, schools and meetings with champions

Between the Supercinema and the Circolo della Legalità, the festival involved hundreds of students in morning screenings and conversations with athletes and professionals.
Among those taking part were Giuseppe Abbagnale, Bruno Mascolo, Angela Procida, Giuseppe Cotticelli, Laura Gambacorta and Francesco Paolo Massa, who shared experiences and reflections with younger audiences.

On 25 November, for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the meeting “Women, Sport and Rights”, organised in collaboration with the Equal Opportunities Committee of the Bar Association of Torre Annunziata, took place: one of the edition's most significant moments.

Workshops, training and in-depth discussion

The Circolo della Legalità hosted the festival's main training events, including technical workshops, professional meetings and screenings of the works in competition.
Among the most popular events were the acting workshop led by actor and director Fabio Massa and the meeting with Laura Gambacorta dedicated to table tennis.
The national FIDAL conference on 27 November was also very well attended, with Sandro Donati and Antonio La Torre, who explored the relationship between research, ethics and the future of Italian athletics.

Words from the festival direction

“This edition confirmed that sports cinema is a tool capable of speaking to everyone, without barriers,” declared Nicola D’Auria, festival director. “We saw young people moved, athletes speak sincerely about themselves, and films opening new perspectives on themes such as identity, inclusion and rights. The public's response shows that we are building something important for the area and for the culture of sporting storytelling in Italy.”

Along similar lines, Ciro Sorrentino, festival director, stressed: “The festival grows because it does not merely screen films but creates connections: between students and champions, between directors and territories, between personal experiences and collective reflections. It was an intense, collective, lively edition, with high-quality works and extraordinary participation. Castellammare can become an international reference point for cinema that tells the story of sport.”

The closing ceremony announced the winners of the fourth edition of the International Sport Film Festival:

Alongside the official awards, the Campania Award was presented to Gianluca Vitiello, author and director of the docufilm Noi non siamo napoletani, celebrated at a special evening at the MaxiMall in Torre Annunziata.

Looking to the future

With a constantly growing audience and ever broader international interest, theInternational Sport Film Festivalbids farewell to 2025 by confirming its mission: to tell sport as a human, civic and cinematic experience, capable of uniting generations, cultures and visions.
The appointment is already set for the fifth edition, with new challenges and an ever more engaged community.
