Impact – The Story of Oshane Drews is a 5-minute, 17-second sports documentary short made in Germany and directed by Sebastian Thomas Brune. The film combines pace and introspection to recount the journey of young basketball talent Oshane Drews, working to turn his passion into a professional career.
Through dynamic game footage and more intimate moments from the athlete's life, the documentary explores the tension between dream and reality, between everyday difficulties and the determination needed to emerge in top-level sport. Basketball becomes the language through which universal themes such as perseverance, identity and the transformative power of ambition are told.
The protagonist, Oshane Drews, plays himself, offering an authentic portrait of a young athlete moving between local courts and the international arena. Brune's direction, with cinematography and editing also by Yannis Panther, alternates action sequences and moments of reflection, accompanied by original music by Christian Meyer.
Impact – The Story of Oshane Drews is an independent project made with a $5,000 budget. It is neither a student film nor the director's first work. Produced by Nicklas Juntke Krüger (also producer of The Devil’s Drivers and One For The Road) and Anke Thommen, it was filmed in the United States and Germany. The film was completed on 9 August 2025.
