The event at the Festival
The road to the Games
Angela Procida was born in Castellammare di Stabia on 29 June 2000. After watching the London 2012 Paralympic Games on television, she took up Para swimming. She built her career with the Italian national team specialising in S2 backstroke.
At the London 2019 World Championships she won silver in the 50-metre backstroke and bronze in the 100 metres. At her first Paralympic Games, Tokyo 2020, she reached the finals in both distances. Two more silver medals followed at the Manchester 2023 World Championships.
From Paris to the European Championships
At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Angela won bronze in the S2 100-metre backstroke and finished fourth in the 50 metres. The following year she returned to the world podium with bronze in the 100-metre backstroke in Singapore.
In September 2026 she became European champion in the S2 100-metre backstroke in Kocaeli, Türkiye, also winning silver in the 50 metres.
Beyond the pool
Angela also competes in handcycling. At the Glasgow 2023 Para-cycling World Championships, she won silver in the road race and bronze in the H2 time trial.
Alongside training and competition, she has pursued her studies. She graduated in biomedical engineering from the University of Naples Federico II, where she continued her university education.
A connection with the Festival
Angela has been part of the International Sport Film Festival since its first edition. In an interview at the time, she described the sense of freedom she finds in the water, offering a glimpse of her personal relationship with sport.
She returns to the Festival to meet the audience and share her journey during the event dedicated to Paralympic sport.
